Hi All,
Im new here so dont know what im really doing. Im currently working on a project which relates to the abandoned church on high street deritend, B12 0LD. Ive been seaching online and it seems that no one has explored this building yet or reported about it yet. The building is empty and there seems to be no pictures or report about it.

Do you know anyone who has explored the chapel and would want to.

I am a university student who needs information on the chapel... any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
MJE

Welcome to the site!

Have a read of the following link to help you get a feel of the site and how things work:

And have a read of this guide to help you posting a report:

There’s tonnes out there, use the search box to your aid and you may even find something in your area!

I look forward to seeing some pictures and reports soon! Just shout if you have any questions!

As for your query, I believe the building you are talking about was formerly the St Edmunds' Boys' Home. Featuring a fine Roman campanile, the structure was built privately as the chapel of a hostel for working boys by Father John Lopes. He was an Anglo-Catholic clergyman who in 1915, before the building was finished, joined the Church of Rome. The small basilican church was never used for services. Indeed, it has always served secular purposes.

I used to be based in Birmingham, but now live in Kidderminster. I did overview this a few times but did not see a viable entry at the time. Wouldn’t be out of the question for another re-look though however I’m unsure if the yard is used!

Yeh I've been in it. Its full of old tyres from the skanky asian tyre place that used to be in that yard.. Couldnt get up the tower as it had phone masts on it. This was probably a decade ago now. It's been sold on since but the situation is still the same. Theres a reason theres no report. There wasnt anything to see.

Ah crap ! Thought it would be an interesting find since it looks so ornate on the exterior. If anyone still has any pics of it from previous trip ... it would be good to see the mess haha

It was never actually consecrated and I did think it was interesting that 100 year old plaster was sat there unpainted, work obviously stopped part way through.

It was fetid though, the glass part way up the tower was the only thing of merit I can recall.

Had a chance to visit it today, looks like a few homeless people maybe living in the place but no one seemed to be inside ( and I was too scared and disappointed to look at the rest after seeing the ground floor). Easily accessible, took a few picture but not worth posting as there's nothing to really see apart from walls with graffiti and what I believe was a old ford escort outside (also covered in signature graffiti). Thanks all for the help on this one.

Been there other week and to the top floor its just a telephone mast wasn't worth the trip up at all but did find a big fuck off knife by the steel door that was padlocked up.
