Hi peeps.

Theres a couple of places that are just dying to be explored!
There's a tasty looking hotel in Woolacombe called the Narracott Grand and the Berkeley Hotel along Ilfracombe seafront. Rumours are that the Berkeley has had some fire damage but what the extent of this is I don't know.
Also an old NHS building called Riversvale in Barnstaple.

Sadly the Collingwood (which has been mentioned) has now been demolished but I believe it would have been too dangerous to enter anyway.

All of these buildings are in very public areas BUT I recon you could also slip very quickly out of view once you're over walls/round the back etc.

You have sturdy footwear and an optional camera? :)

I'm off to Woolacombe on Sunday so I'll have a look at the Narracott.
There's also a partially demolished hotel set back from the road, further up the hill towards the cut through for Woolacombe bay Holiday park...Think I'll have a mooch up there too.
Cheers for the info :thumb

The Narracott is in the middle of submitting new plans, and half the site is open and operating I believe. Certainly worth a mooch.

If your in the area FanGirl, take a peek at Lee Bay too ;) Like a tit, I forgot my tripod when we went, think there may be some pics on here though...

We looked at the NHS site, still fairly secure, and although not is use, seems cared for.

For your first mission, grab a camera, and get yourself over to Torrington. The old creamery there is great as a first explore.

The old creamery is all fenced off now, only with one way in which is well hidden away. Its great for an adventure though. Always willing to help someone get there!

All you have to do is walk the fence perimeter to find a rather blatant entrance! Certainly the last couple of times I went! Some of the locals also use it as a short cut!

The Dairy Crest Creamery has been on my to-do list for a while because the place holds great photographic interest to me. Barnstaple is just up the road from where I went to university - Exeter. Graduated last year, but I think its time to ring my mates and ask them to let me crash for a couple of days while I tick these sites off ;)

Much obliged for the info! I agree with the others, the Creamery will be a very nice first explore. I know several people that have done it and all reports indicate a mild (but exciting) experience. Good luck! :thumb

Hey, hope you don't mind me joining this conversation for my first post on 28DL?

With regards to the above: the abandoned NHS building I think you refer to in Barnstaple is at the bottom of Trinity Street, with the junction to Taw Vale - I think it used to be a clinic of some sorts, opposite what used to be the old North Devon Infirmary (now flats). It's boarded up and covered in graffiti, though could be worth a look if there is a hidden way in!

The old dairy in Torrington/Taddiport is pretty cool: you can easily walk alongside or even get inside if you want to, though behind the abandoned building is a working lorry yard so there are people around for much of the day. I was there only last week (sorry no pics!) and there were signs saying it had been acquired for redevelopment, so if you wanna go there, go soon!!

As for the clever soul who mentioned Lee Bay - the derelict hotel there looks pretty special. The bay itself is gorgeous, but the abandoned hotel looks eerily out of place, though I was glad I stumbled across it.

If anyone is interested, I have recently explored an abandoned mining village on the Devon/Cornwall border and have plenty of pics, but as this is my first post I do not know the ins and outs of writing a report...

Lectrician, Lee Bay did look pretty well fenced off tbh, but I couldn't have too much of a nose as there were other people admiring the hotel too.

With regards to access to the mines: you are able to go in to the George and Charlotte Mine (part of the Great Devon Consols) on a little train as part of the Morwellham Quay attraction nearby. However, if you walk up to the train tracks from the abandoned village site, there is nothing to stop you wandering in to the mine of your own accord, though I think they lock it up outside opening hours. The footpath to the village has an interesting feature well hidden up a steep slope: what looks to be the dead end of a mine track, with some tracks leading off in to nowhere, which may well lead to another mine opening. In the local area there are literally hundreds (or so it seems) of abandoned engine houses, with nearby Gawton mine having warehouses etc still in situ.

I will attempt to upload some photos on a new thread for you.
