Visited on a trip to the French / German borders around Saarlouis, this was a small Abris hiding in the woods close to a Gypsum mine we had just explored. Not sure of the history or name of this place, I have it saved as Abris Creme Brules on my dropbox lol. We spent 30 minutes scrabbling around in the dark looking for the entrance, always fun when you're tired!
An Abris is a subterranean infantry shelter that is normally located close to, and controlled by one of the large Ouvrages. They are normally equipped with two Cloches, one for observation and one with a machine gun, a small machine room for power and barracks / kitchen for the infantry station there. This one was complete in the early 30s and was intended as a battalion command post, slthough never used in this capacity.
This one was in very good condition.
