History
The Adelphi Lads Club was founded in 1888 to give boys from nearby deprived districts of Adelphi and Greengate things to do. The club replaced the first lads club in the UK which was first in an old mill on Pine Street. It opened 15 years before Salfords Lads Club in Ordsall. The club provided squash courts, football pitches, table tennis equipment and many other facilities for youngsters. It moved to Cannon Street in 1921 and ran many sports teams and outings. In 1937 one of its members, Stan Pearson, made his debut for Manchester United before going on to represent England.
A fire in 2010 at the building - one of the country's first youth clubs - destroyed memorabilia dating back 120 years. It had stood derelict ever since on the corner of Cannon Street and North George Street. The fire ripped through the buildings main hall and hundreds of historic pictures and memorials to former members who fought and died in both world wars were lost. The building had not been used for 18 months prior to the blaze after vandalism and dwindling numbers made it unviable.
Now a planning application has been submitted to demolish it and put up apartments in blocks of two to five storeys plus commercial units on the site and vacant land behind it.

This was a good explore as soon it will no longer be here. However you can tell its been abandoned for quite some time now due to the state of the disrepair inside. But if a dodgy way in through the roof but once inside, I was shocked to still see items in there! Not many photos of this place but here are a few of whats left behind....
