Report - Agecroft Power station,Salford-June 2019

Between 1925 and 1993, the Agecroft Power Station supplied 100,000Kw of electricity to power homes and industry in Greater Manchester and further afield.Two stacks and four enormous cooling towers were powered by coal from the nearby Agecroft Colliery. It was formally decommissioned in 1993 before it was demolished in a controlled explosion on 8 May, 1994 in front of crowds that gathered to witness the end of an era.

apart from that theres not much more at ground level

the main reason why i visited was to see the control room but i couldn't find it anywhere. but after about an hour of trying to figure it out...

the pigeons have definitely got the better of this place but it was still great to see in person

I believe this week the control room has now bitten the dust and ended up in the skip, so much history has met its fate yet again.

Given the importance of the site, housing the apprentice school, NW Region drawing office and the three power stations I've always been surprised how little information about the site has appeared online.
Sad to hear that the control room from 'A' has been stripped but at least quite a few people managed to view it over the past few years. My only visit was in the late 1970s and it didn't have the tree-rat poo back then

Here's a desk getting tested at Metro-Vics Trafford Park works dated 1926, same design as the Agecroft 'A' one just slightly larger, makes you wonder if it survived as long! Need to upload more from my collection of that place, pure epicness...
