Question - Any steam train enthusiasts out there ?

I’m just waiting to see if I’ve been accepted on a course to restore steam train boilers and general steam train maintenance so I can get a job on a heritage railway.

I’m looking for any book recommendations on steam train/steam boiler construction or general steam train maintenance.

im already a qualified aircraft mechanic so basic engineering isn’t required just specifically steam trains.

I should imagine most will be 2nd hand or reprints

Any suggestions ?

I know someone who repairs, rebuilds and restores boilers and steam train loco's in general for heritage railways (he is also a train driver so it must be like a busman's holiday !!) so could ask him if he could recommend anything if you like ?

Cheers Stranton I’ll check them out.

I think it would be extremely satisfying to be keeping heritage alive for future generations, seeing people enjoying the experience and living in a smaller tighter community that you don’t get anymore in London.
I fixed aircraft from ages 17-28 but got pissed with shift patterns whilst all my mates were out raving, and it was just cold dark hangers with blokes moaning about divorces and mortgages :D And just about every chemical they used had cancer risks.Been a pro gardener for the last 13years but working for unappreciative millionaires also grinds you down.
Fingers crossed I’ll get accepted on the course as a mature student due to my background.
