Aytoun Street Job Centre - Manchester
Designed in 1936, opened in 1951.
I got my first job 20 years ago in this job centre. It has now stood empty for almost as long. Once inside you're in an eerily quiet post apocalyptic landscape. The council's vigilant boarding means it rarely has visitors. Peeling paint hangs from every surface, plants grow in the central courtyard, pigeons have made the building their own. Being made of concrete the structure is reasonably intact and it's mostly dry, apart from the lower levels. Visited with Dystopia, Hello and thank you to the Canadian architects.
