visited here a while back but have only got around to posting a report about it ,barnsdale tunnel was a tunnel on the line from hull to the stairfoot roundabout in barnsley a double track line opened in 1885 and at 1276 yards its just short of a mile both portals are fenced of now and we needed a ladder to gain access
over the fence
conditions were fairly dry a bit wet at the other end and its quite a walk
one of three air shafts our best pic sorry about the poor quality of the other pics
the shaft is about 80ft tall after reaching the other end we walked back and got out over the fence and walked back out of the cutting and back home not really my thing but this is a long tunnel and that air shaft brickwork made it worth it cheers for watching
