Like a few others here, we took advantage of some sunny late afternoons at the end of September for a couple of visits to the old Cemex works in Barrington, Cambs. The site was mothballed in 2008, with demolition starting in 2012. The hordings are now up, and heavy machinery ready to get started on what's left. 200 new houses and (possibly) a new park focusing on the unique geology of the area to follow.

We managed to get round most of the site. Special thanks to security for staying in their cabin throughout. No other signs of life except a barn owl in the main shed and a couple of stray urbexers.
Here's a few highlights - with apologies for the photo quality...
Approaching via the old quarry
The garage and vehicle servicing shed.
The Cemex archives
Dynamite!
Spare parts for the British Monorails crane above.
Following the conveyor up to the silos...
The silo engineer's office...
...and his naughty secret.
Machinery in the bagging plant
Part of the silo complex
The rail line upgraded to dispose of Crossrail spoil in the old quarry
One of the settling ponds
The kiln exhaust tower and feeder. Now very well sealed for asbestos removal
The rotary kiln
Hard to do justice to the main shed with my camera phone. Think a zeppelin hangar
For show only
The kiln control room
Entrance to the rotary kiln
A scarecrow for urbexers?
Fossil stash in the office. The quarry has a rare exposure of Cambridge Greensand formation rocks.
Thanks for looking,
M
