A bit of internet history but I'm sure everyone knows the background of this place!!
Officially opening in May 1939 Barrow Hospital was later requisitioned by the government in Spetember of 1939 to serve as the Royal Naval Auxiliary Hospital during WW2, with control being returned to the former owners in August of 1946 greatly easing the overcrowding at Bristol Mental Hospital, whose population had grown throughout the war.
In a national survey of hospital cleanliness conducted in 2005 Barrow Hospital was found to be the dirtiest hospital in the country inspectors stated the hospital had "an unacceptably dirty environment", Two of the hospitals three remaining wards were immediately closed and their patients were transfered to other hospitals, With the final ward emptied during the summer of 2006.
One of those things always talked about but never getting round to
Managed to get there in the summer & although still a lot to see & photograph it's in a fair state now!! Not been back since [though want to] so unsure as to what it's current state is.
I hope the title, content & posted photos are ok & they should all be within size limits etc
