The Baverstock Academy is a large mixed secondary school and sixth form college located at the southern edge of Birmingham. The current school buildings can be traced back to 1969 when they were constructed as the ‘Maypole School’ and eventually became Baverstock in the early 80’s after several mergers. Due to its ‘outstanding’ sports facilities, it became one of the first schools to be granted ‘Specialist Sports College’ status in 2002 and gained ‘Academy’ status in 2013. The school eventually closed in August 2017 after poor Ofsted reports, money issues and dwindling pupil numbers – by the end there were less than 500 students, a far cry from its capacity of 1,330.

This one was brought to my attention by @Gsxrwayne so credit to him, certainly one I’d never heard of before. We were in the area so thought we’d swing by and see what happened. It’s a big place and took us a couple of hours to get around it, just a real shame it’s been smashed and tagged to shit by the local talent!

That's a pleasant surprise, I recently stumbled across this one myself and was planning a visit very soon! Actually looks better than I thought it would given the absolute shithole of an area its in.

Any sign of the travellers out back? The last news article I saw was about how a group of them had taken up residence next to it.

Nah, they must've gone now mate. And yes it isn't the nicest part of Birmingham!

Yeah I read the council fucked the sec off after it ran them up a nice 241k bill... Makes it all a bit pointless in the end!

Great photos, my school had some pretty tough football matches against them in the 90's and were one of the best sporting schools in the region. Drove past there yesterday and half of his has now been bulldozed.
