Beckton Gas Works (Full Metal Jacket Filming Location)

Hi

Does anyone know if there is anything left of the Full Metal Jacket filming location over at the old Beckton Gas Works site in East London.

I have had a look of Google map and street view but had no luck.

Don't know about that, but the base where Kubrick filmed the first act of the film is definitely still, went and saw my brother's passing out there, and he was pointing out different areas from the film.

Virtually no trace of the old gasworks now exists. Bisected by many roads, including the A1020 Royal Docks Road, a small area of the waste tip and some gas holders remain, separated by a mile or so of redevelopment. Parts of the site are occupied by an industrial estate, the Beckton Retail Park and Gallions Reach Shopping Park.

I came across that on Wiki.

Its such a huge site I thought there maybe a small chance of somthing still being there, never mind..

Nearly all of it has gone now - it went in the early 1990's. It used to look ace - tipping precariously to the side. I wish I had gone to see it

Oasis used it for the video for D'You Know What I Mean? When they were filming it the helicopters were flying over all day which caused a lot of issues with City Airport nearby. I worked nearby in a school and the kids spent all day watching them circling above. One of the old railway locomotives from the gas works is buried under the large spoil heaps that became the Beckton Alps, a dry ski slope nearby. I'm not sure whether the Beckton Alps are still derelict. A few bits and pieces out there that might be worth a look though?

I came across this map that appears to have an overlay of the old Gas Works locations with the present day. Hopefully it'll work when you click on it, when I try the link it goes to the map but doesn't show the overlay choices on the left side under contents.

If it doesn't work, I found it by clicking on the Google Maps link associated with this image. The link is located below the picture, to the right of camera location. Hopefully one of them will work.
