Belstone Pumphouse
Dartmoor
The glass squared tiles lying amongst the heather are all which hide the underground passages and rooms of this Derelict place.
The two rooms each side of the pump house used to be full of water are now empty and decaying with bright green fauna growing on the floor .
The plant was built to pump spring water from boreholes under the valley floor, treat and store it for use in the local area.
Despite being done by an act of parliament, the pump house never delivered the quantity of water decreed and the site was abandoned. The chambers are now inhabited by their very own ecosystem – as flora springs up from the waterbeds below – almost like an underground prison for plants; the buttons and rusting machinery remains dormant.
The light in this place is phenomenal and well worth the walk across the beautiful moors to find it.
