This is an interesting sounding one, just read online about a council winning a court case to demolish a "eyesore" building.

bit of cut and paste here.....

Billingham House once stood proud and majestic on Bellasis Avenue - a mighty symbol of ICI’s towering achievements, the biggest office block on Teesside.

Built in 1959, the former ICI headquarters won numerous awards and paid host to industrial leaders from across the globe.

But for more than a decade the 10-storey 156,000sq ft building has cast a dark shadow over the town.

After closing in the mid 1990s Billingham House fell into disrepair and became a target for vandals and arsonists.

“Urban explorers” looked upon the empty shell as a challenge, trespassing to scale the crumbling floors, photographing their achievements and posting their pictures on the internet.

Skateboarders diced with death on the very top floor. And fire chiefs warned it was only a matter of time before somebody was killed in the building.

Even though the article says its been targeted by urban explorers I searched the forums and turned up jack?? :crazy

The building is due to be demolished in August theres a few pics on the sites below looks interesting, read more here:-

Indeed, as you can deduce from the low post number (94) that last one has been up since 28days was a baby - we were less than a month old when OT posted that one back in November 2005 :p:

And those are just the reports and news articles about 28 visiting the place that haven't been deleted over the years, because, as one explorer says in his report:

Horrid place, horrid neighbourhood. Gangs of idiots roaming around.
Oh, and if you do go, a quote from OT's report 7 years ago:

This building is a death trap. There are open shafts from top to bottom. Be warned - you could die in here.

Ive been here many times and last time was... let me think...................... erm??? ho last years after the demo crew had emptied all the crap out if it and cut away the stairway, hence why they havent been so many reports done at late. ALSO if you dug deeper some what they have been trying to plan to pull this place down for the last 3 years so i dont think it be going so soon.

Yeah saw that the court case had been going in for years but looks like this was the final nail in the coffin.

Have to admit I didnt sift back through 5 years worth of posts but glad its at least been covered, but for some strange reason I can't view three of the links?

They started demolishing the car park frame last week so looks like its not going to be here much longer. i remember exploring the place when it first closed and still had loads of furniture and stuff in it and was a much safer place. the lift doors were slightly open but other than that there was really any danger until you stood on the roof edge. sounds a bit lairy now though with no stairs.

There was another smaller building round the corner that closed at the same time. that one had a patrol though so was a bit harder to access. it wasnt as interesting as the main building though. The main building just had an alarm system with the main power switch in the sunken bit at the end of the building. people were always messing with it and in the end they just left it switched off.

Did anyone make it to the basement or is it flooded now? i remember going down there and it was packed with stuff and i think there was a tunnel too.

It's nowhere particularly close to anywhere. The chemical works is on the horizon, and you just do the demo in the evening with a cordon and insurance. It's so they can do it cheap. One machine, one operator.

I don't suppose you have any photos of it just after closing do you, I have never been able to find any and it would be fascinating to see them!
