Everytime I visit this place the weather is dull and dreary, however with glorious sunshine in abundance I decided to make the most of this because unfortunately BOCM Olympia Mills at Barlby is undergoing demolition :(

So early this morning I sped down the A64 passing the multitude of cars heading for Scarborough to get sunburnt and catch food posioning from some 3 year old reconstituted crab sticks, I knew I was wiser, because if you cannot spend a sunny Sunday morning up to your nuts in dereliction then there is no point living!

An amusing game of 'hide from the secca' ensued but we won and like silent ninja's we got on with our craft.

Visited with Adi, a mate and life long traveller past the behemoth that is the mighty BOCM:

Here is what is happening currently:

The area marked in a green box is currently being demolished, this is the original part of the mill I think. The area in red is the disused boiler house, that will be coming down shortly. The building in blue is the general workshop and pattern store, that is OK at the moment, and the buildings in yellow are the rape seed oil refinery and loading areas, this is also OK at the moment.

The demo team have been busy (this is in the green area on the photo above):

Tell the truth, it breaks your heart doesn't it

The clock tower is also to be demolished because the structure is 'unsafe' :wanker However there are plans to save the clock, which is nice of them:rolleyes:

Despite the demo being underway, there is still plenty of rusty industrial grimage:

it will be a real shame when these trollies go in the skip, they are everywhere and I love em!

Wheels and belts:

The famous steam turbine:

The superfly flywheel:

Made in Yorkshire....from whippets:

I never tire of seeing the great hall:

Its like something out of Alien:

A recent pikey visit has left more cable stripped:

If you were planning on visiting this lovely industrial relic, get yer skates on because as they say "when its gone, its gone"
