History:
Bournewood House was the main administrative building of the Botley Park mental hospital, built on part of the Botley park estate in the early 20th century. The house was then used as the headquarters of the Bournewood PCT. The building now lays abandoned. The buildings next door also are now closed with some vacant buildings. In November 2017, they submitted planning application to Borough Council for the redevelopment of the land which was approved in February 2019. This included approval of new housing for staff, a multi storey car park, central staff carpark and other facilities at the Hospital.

While me and my boyfriend was recovering from the heat in a car park . @Lewis Merrin came running up to us extremely happy saying that he had just found an abandoned hospital with access.... We couldn’t believe the luck we was getting with all of these abandoned buildings in the same area - all a couple of minutes away in a car! When we walked up to this building the access was very obvious. When I actually went in myself I was very shocked to see a very long corridor on the right of me with one light on! On the left of me was a modern looking corridor. I worked out this led into a building that I was looking for access earlier on the day so I was very happy about that. The place really wasn’t disappointing at all. However I was expecting for the interior to be more grand as the exterior is somewhat intersting. The state of the building isn’t too bad however some rooms have really suffered from some natural decay. There is no vandalism at all to be seen. One room the natural decay was so intense the wall was black with water falling out of the ceiling it looks like a waterfall! I was somewhat nervous about the power being on here for some reason. There was a fire alarm going off throughout the whole time we was in there to. Some rooms stunk of damp and mould however most of the building smelt of paint. I enjoyed taking pictures of the corridors! Enjoy the pictures! Chertsey has a lot going about at the moment to explore!
