The sun had barely risen.
China Doll pulled in just seconds before Toaster Boy, as the race came to a nail-biting close.
They had both woken up particularly early that day, and for good reason, they expected less resistance as the rest of the country was sleeping.

A worker from the hospital eyed them up suspiciously as they prepared, but quickly disappeared back into the neighbouring, still functional hospital.

Carefully, they approached the target.

After considering various entrance options, they both decided upon climbing through the already made hole in a bush just past the entrance at the front of the building on the main road. From there, they made their way to the edge of the security fence, and squeezed past the edge, and, just like that, they were in.
While keeping an eye out for any unwanted visitors, they approached the building, and began peering through the windows to discover, as they had expected, a most definitely abandoned building.
All that was left was various pieces of boring furniture and evidence of previous 'visitors' whom, unlike today's visitors, clearly lacked respect for their endeavours.
As they made their way further down the side of the building, China Doll struck gold. She found an open window.
Excited, and after one very quick consultation with one another, they clambered in. Toaster Boy gave China Doll a leg up to help her before following quickly.
Once inside, they found themselves inside a small room with nothing in it but one ominously closed door staring at them from in front, with a window friend by its side.
Toaster Boy discovered a precariously placed hi-vis jacket under the windows table friend who window was hiding behind, and thought it suited him rather nicely and so he adorned it in an instant.
Excited, they went to open the door, the final thing standing between them, and adventure.
Disappointment. Disappointment was all they could feel when they discovered the door was locked.
With nowhere else to go other than whence they had come, they exited out again via the same, now less exciting, window. Toaster Boy helped China Doll once again.
They both continued to wander around the outside of the building, Toaster Boy occasionally stopping to take a poorly taken photo of China Doll, before quickly catching up with her. After seeing most of the outside rather quickly, Toaster Boy got curious.
The companions separated naturally to have an independent look at whatever was intriguing them but Toaster Boy always made sure to try keep an eye out for China Doll in case danger arose.
In a bid of curiosity and disparity, Toaster Boy once again climbed through the window that had at one point provided so much hope for the pair.
He landed with a thud again in the small, gloomy room. He tried the window. Impossible. It did not open.
Then, he looked at the door again. He noticed a small lock at the top, which he turned.
He excitedly tried the door again.
It opened.
The day had been saved.
The key to the country struck again with all his might.
He quickly ran back to the window and poked his head out and instantly saw China Doll approaching.
"I'm in!"
"What?"
"I'm in!"
"How?"
"The door, it was locked but I unlocked it and now it's unlocked, we're in!"
China Doll did not need Toaster Boys help this time as she lifted herself in once again.
Almost glued together, in a state of nervous excitement, they slowly made their way through the door and into the building.

As they began exploring from room to room, and soon floor to floor, and Toaster Boy now getting the hang of his camera and starting to take slightly more acceptable photos, they relished in the joy of discovering lost artefacts from a different time.
The rooms contained little in reality, but to them so much.
As they opened closed doors almost scared of what may lay behind, time escaped them, and nerves began to relax.
The building itself was large and contained many rooms spread across 3 floors.
After seeing a few asbestos warning signs they decided to breathe through their clothes for protection.
Each corridor, each room was slightly different in size and design, yet unique in character.
Various objects such as keys, desks, chairs, plugs (the bath variety), empty king packets and plumbing pipes lay scattered throughout the building.
They both continued with glee to explore this new territory together, as this was something they had spoken about doing for quite some time. It certainly meant something to the Toaster of the two.
They made their way to the front of the building, where they found a room with a comfortable looking chair and tea making facilities.
Toaster Boy found another BLOODclart jacket and joyfully gave it to his companion, now they both had one.
Gang ***.
Next to the tea making facilities, China Doll found a bottle of milk. It was only out of date by two months. Clearly, this was the security guards tea room. When they were here.
The duo had come to the conclusion that security was probably only there at certain times, and they were right, as they had encountered no resistance that day.
Gleefully, they continued with their adventure.

After god knows how long inside the building, and somewhere on the second floor, Toaster Boy heard a noise.
It was an alarm, whirring constantly, and loudly, yet far away, so extreme concern was not there yet.

He quickly found China Doll whom he quickly expressed his curious concern to.

She was terrified.

She had a job, you see, and so they both agreed very quickly, to leave.

After successfully and quickly finding their way to the window that allowed them inside, they noticed the distant alarm that seemed like it was coming from outside anyway, had stopped.

After deciding there was no threat, they decided to make the most of the opportunity and keep exploring.

They continued on with their venture and found themselves in a room on the ground floor in the corner, it reminded Toaster Boy of some sort of waiting room in its former days of use.

All of a sudden, that same alarm came back, but this time it was not far away. It was with them. It was in the same room with them. It was almost a part of them, inside their heads. Piercingly loud and ever present.
They had a problem. A big problem.

China Doll lost all sense of reality.
They looked at each other and knew they had to get out of there, and quick.
Before they had a chance to think, another alarm joined them inside their ear drums, the threat was real!

Toaster Boy, panicking, opened a window in the hope of climbing through but there was no chance. A slim cat would have struggled. He was a man.
He turned and looked at China Doll and shouted "we need to find the window! It's our only chance!"
China Doll was panicking and didn't know what to do, in tears, she walked over to the same window Toaster Boy had tried and in a bid of desperation began trying to squeeze out of the impossible escape route.
She had gone mad.
She had lost all common sense.
She was shouting unintelligible nonsense about the end of the world and how sorry she was. Toaster Boy believed she was talking to God as she thought this was the end.
The alarms were still ringing.
Someone must have been on their way.
Alarms like this do their job, they alarm people not only in the general vicinity, but the enemy type. The type that come for our kind. The security guards. The feds.

Toaster Boy grabbed China Doll by the shoulders and shook her caring-fully yet violently and shouted "keep it together man! We need to get the hell out of here!"

She looked at Toaster Boy and, for an instant, calmed down, she nodded in approval of the idea.
Escape.
They must escape.
Toaster Boy looked around at their options. He was lost. He had no idea where to go out of the 3 or so options for escape.
To add insult to injury he had in all his fear accidentally soiled himself.
China Doll was now laughing hysterically as she had lost her mind completely.
Toaster Boy, certain their fate was sealed was about to make a desperate bid for escape by taking a chance and running through a random door.
Then, he saw a fire escape in the far corner of the next room.
He grabbed his raving mad companion by the hand, the companion he would never leave behind and dragged her to their last chance of freedom.
Time slowed down.
He put his arm out and reached for the door.
He pushed down on the lever.
He took a breath.
Time stopped.
It opened.
He looked either side and saw no one and dragged China Doll to the gap in the fence where they both exited just as quickly as they had entered.

China Doll had regained her sanity by now as she realised freedom was still her reality.

Toaster Boy however, had still soiled himself.

As they climbed through the bush and back onto the main road, both wearing their newly acquired high visibility garments, they giggled at each other about how scared one another was when the alarm went off and about how cool that morning had been.

They got to their cars, the alarm just as loud and still going, and decided to drive away and reconvene somewhere away from all this madness.

The morning had been a success.
And that, was only the beginning.

Toaster Boy & China Doll.

Until the next time.
