Nice was a nice little explore, quite relaxed.

History

There is a lot of history to these Lime works, which can be found here:

The Limeworks closed in 1930, and has since been handed over the Surrey County Council. They have been carrying out recent restoration work.

The Explore

Went here with a friend for a nice easy explore on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
The site is on a public footpath, so its a very nice relaxed explore. The old engine shed was quite a interesting little place and you could still see the tracks in concrete.
The Kiln Battery is a prominent feature and is very much intact. Getting in was pretty amusing.

First the Engine shed.

Some nice pics there mate! I took the dogs for a walk up round there last night but was runnin out of daylight by the time i got there so i couldnt have a propper mooch about. I'll be going back another day for a propper poke about! The big hole is a shaft to an old hearthstone mine, some of the tunnels still exist but apparently most have collapsed! If you follow the footpath that runs south of the kilns to the west there is another kiln standing in a field. I was talking to a very helpful farmer (I know, what are the chances of that) he said it was a prototype and the only one of its kind! There's also what looks like a yard for the local fair ground lot with some v cool old trucks n that right next to the kiln. I saw what i think was a Scammel pioneer done up in showman livery but I could hear voices so I didn't try to go in for a closer look!
