Report - Burtons Biscuits - part of (Moreton, Wirral, Jun, 2018)

There was a lead on here two years ago for this factory: https://www.28dayslater.co.uk/threads/burtons-biscuits-moreton.103890/. So since its local and no reports have appeared I went for a look. The current effort only covers the blocks arbitrarily labelled A, B and C below, about a third of the site in surface area. I had one attempt to cross the road into the other larger blocks but got shouted at and left. I think the block to the right of D is still active (chocolate refinery).

History: Built sometime after 1954 according to OS maps, the place made various sorts of biscuits (latterly wagon wheels, jammy dodgers, Cadbury’s lines) until it shut about a decade ago and has been empty ever since. So what’s in blocks A-C? Well, not much - its mainly somewhat trashed modernised offices with suspended ceilings, a lot of empty packing/warehousing spaces along with a canteen and social club.

Pictures are ordered from the right of the A block to the left of the C block.

One right of B is a little firestation.

The rest is packaging/distribution, with a small union office on the far side.

So yes, not great, but on the plus side the site is really easy to access. Half the site is active, with Typhoo and a baking place right next door, so the central road is busy during weekdays and there also a few people about at weekends. I talked to the front gate security a few months ago and was told its all due for demolition this year.

I once worked in the head office at Burton's. They had a few big sites round the country and it was family run for years but I think it all got broken up when it was sold. Feels odd to be looking at it like this... Cheers for sharing

Ace! I remember this being posted as a lead a couple of years back. Admittedly it’s not as good as I’d hoped for, but that’s not the point - well done for getting it done, and hopefully the remainder might offer up some gems!

In case anyone is still interested this is in the process of being demolished - looks like blocks A and D have gone.

Yeh we went back a couple of weeks ago. Canteen block was still intact but the rest was pretty much past it. Either totally gone or asbestos stripped. Still, good place while it lasted. Dont see many old factories like it anymore and just hard enough to make it a challenge and keep it off the goon radar.
