After doing a little more research last night a realised that the busby mill had a lade. ( A mill lade, or simply a lade, is the term used for a man-made watercourse, generally one that carries water to a mill, in Scotland)
so went back down to the river (white cart) next to the mill to find them and was well impressed when i did would say its about 100m in two parts
managed to brake my tripod in the process

some sort of dam(lock) to let water in to the lade
