I moved away from Winchester years ago, and last heard (again!) this place was going. I always enjoyed it up there and will be sad to see it go.
I finally managed to find a plan of the original site. Sorry it's a poor picture of a folded photocopy, but might help someone see what WAS there.

Nice.
Does the plan have a schedule of buildings with it?
Also, does it have a Ministry of Works drawing number?
Nope. What you see is what is in storage - Just a plan. I came across quite a few black and white photos, but that's it.

Visited that place last month, gate was left wide open, not that it would have been hard to access anyway but you could easily drive a car on the site. Shame theres nothing really left there, only a wide open space i persume was the parade ground and a few shells of buildings. Theres a lot of shells you would miss as what looked like bushes were actually hiding old structures.

Any idea what this is? When i visited, i went into the bush which was hiding a huge curved wall, almost looked like a firing wall but i doubt it? Think it was where this part of the map was but didnt look how its been drawn on the plan.

The only once building that actually stands out is now a graffiti artists haven.

I believe that is the old firing range, the base was run by the King's Royal Rifle Corps during WW2, and later served to train Green Jackets in the 60's

The only decent surviving part is the armoury (graffiti'd place) the shell of the mess hall - the (long metal framed building), and when I was there last, the remains of the vehicle workshop (brick walls, falling in metal roof.

You can see some of it as it was in this old british pathe film - https://www.britishpathe.com/video/the-king-visits-the-krrc

Thought it might have been a firing wall as there were loads of little holes scattered all over the wall! That pathe film pretty interesting too!

I visited it the other day and apart from the metal structure (possibly a hangar) next to the Parade ground is the only building standing. A few walls have held up but it doesn't have much going for it really.

Surprised that the old Armoury has gone, unless it's been torn down - it was in reasonable nick when I went last.

This is the safety Wall of the 25m range. The safety area behind the wall extended across the valley almost to Whiteshute Lane.

That bit was the shooting range. Last I heard, there's finally plans to develope the site now. I thought it may have been a park and ride, but now I think it'll be flats.
