Report - Butterley Tunnel, Cromford Canal (near Butterley) - October 2015

It can't do it has a blocked end with a pipe that allows water to overflow out so is at a constant 5ft the same is at the repaired section that blocks the far end.

The water level was deeper than 5ft when we explored, we couldn't stand on the bottom, one of us tried and got wet, and he is 6ft tall.

I guess a dry suit would be a better option, and some arm bands for a bit of swimming

Stunning photos of the tunnel! Have you tried going in from the other end, a lot of silt and more difficult? Someone did a few years ago and left a report at http://tinas-sliderules.me.uk/Butterley Tunnel Survey.pdf which should be of interest.
