TETLEY BREWERY LEEDS

"Remember what Jimmy used to say?.. If You wanna be makin' moves on the street, have no attachments, allow nothing to be in your life that you cannot walk out on in thirty seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner"

Althou the above quote has no relevance as such it kind of does, I was going to miss this and do something more normal life related but GeoVDUB was like "Whuuuuuuuuut!" So I manned up, geared up and moved out!

We did this about 2 days after the place closed was really cool. The lights still on, coffee machines working, computers still running, pretty much everything still there and more Tetley hats laying about you can shake a stick it. Only downside is the smell! And Im proud to say me, Fowle and GeoVDUB finished off the last coffee and tea from the canteen, they brewed there last pint and we had there last coffee :p

BIT O-HOSTORY

"Tetley’s has a history that is inextricably linked to Leeds and spans over 175 years. In 1822, Joshua Tetley set up his brewing business just yards away from where Tetley’s Brewery Wharf is today. Following an amalgamation with Carlsberg, Tetley’s is now the 6th biggest brewer in the world. This factory is immense, and there is a constant waft of beer as you walk around the site! For visitors there is an interactive museum which reveals the history of brewing alcohol."

Tetleys brewery opened in 1822 and expanded through out its life with the last extension being built in 2006. In 1994 the muesum opened and proved extremely successful but closed in 2000 to make way for the brewery Wharf development of flats. Tetley-Carlsberg annouced the closure in November 2008 and the site closed a couple of years later and is now slowly being demoed :(

On with the pictures! Ill probs be wrong in all the naming of the bits but nevermind...

The Hopper Tanks (I think)

This bit was also used for when visitors had a walk round the brewery and has controll room in the centre to regulate the tanks

BEHIND THE SCENES

To make 180million plus pints a time takes a lot of pipes and holding tanks, room after room full of pipey shiney goodness. To think, all this and I still prefer Guinness...

MAIN CONTROL ROOM

This seems to be the main computer room that we could find and looked like it focused on fire prevention, monitoring all the temps of the tanks and powders that were around. Sadly there was no porn on them.

THE BASEMENT

This is somewhere that I wanted to visit again and thought I would be able too but never got a second visit, bet there was air raid shelters down there. This is the last place we visited before deciding to head off.

I drive by this place now and it upsets me cos it was the 2nd best derp in Leeds, the first best derp is just down the road and is far harder to do....
