The Explore

So the day started at 2.30am with a plan to hit Haslar nice and early.. soon as we arrived we were spotted by lots of secca and the game was up before it even started sadly.. with our first explore failing miserably we started on some backups with Carmel being one of them. Really nice building and a nice relaxed explore.. Hope you like the pics

The History

Carmel College was a predominantly Jewish co-educational bording school in England operating between 1948 and 1997. It was first situated at Greenham Common near Newbury and then at Mongewell Park near Wallingford, Oxfordshire. It was Europe's only Jewish boarding school. It also had a very small number pupils who were not of Jewish descent, as day pupils. It was referred to as the "Jewish Eton" and Carmel College alumni were referred to as "Old Carmelis". Typical boarding fees in 1996 were £10,000 per school term (i.e. £30,000 per year). In 1990 it topped the list of the 20 most expensive boarding schools in the country. It was closed in June 1997, mainly owing to diminishing pupil numbers and financial difficulties, having been seriously affected by the termination of government assisted places by the Labour government.

i wasnt a fan of this place when i went, it's not as old as it likes to think it is, its only 70 yrs old but it wants to be 400 yrs old and i didnt think it had been done to a great standard, the panel works alright but the timber framing is terrible, the chamber beams aren't even solid, just being anal as im a carpenter :P nicely captured though dude

Shame to hear you had no success at Haslar, best way to see the good bits nowadays is to suck off the secca i've heard ;)

But always good when the backup turns out well. Very nice shots of the woodwork panelling, top job :)
