I know this place has been done a few times but thought I’d share my experience anyway.
Bit of history, Carmel College was predominately a co-Ed boarding school between 1948 and 1997. In 1973 it was referred to as the Jewish Eton, with a typical boarding fee of around £10,000 a term. There was a very competitive selection process and from 1990 to 1997 it was listed as the top of 20 most expensive boarding schools in the country. In October 2015 the former housemaster was convicted of abusing boys at the school over a period of 20 years.
We were in the area for the day and decided to check it out to kill some time while waiting for it to get dark to go to another location.
Have to say was a little sketched out by the amount of cars there but didn’t see a single sign of life. We spent around an hour walking around, couldn’t see any visible access to buildings but then again we were still expecting someone to come and shout at us
Just as we were leaving we heard an engine start up, sure enough around the corner came the dreaded old man in his red van, we gave him a wave expecting a garage of abuse, but he was actually quite pleasant, was telling us about the buildings and the Manor House, was chatting to him for around 10 mins and even got a handshake when we left, so either he had just smoked a fat joint or his medication was working that day lol!
Definitely want to go back and explore properly.
