Cascades closed in 2020 as it was considered surplus to requirements after the opening of the new £30 million South Lake leisure complex. It was one of 3 leisure centres closed and scheduled for demolition after 5 months but for some reason, this still hasn't happened as of 2023. I explored in April 2022 and was pleasantly surprised to find that, despite a few broken windows, vandalism was absolutely minimal. The scale of the huge pool was incredible and even more surprisingly, the entire building still had working electricity! It wasn't the biggest explore and we were done within 45 minutes but this was an enjoyable visit. There was also a gym but it was empty and not particularly interesting so it wasn't photographed.

Agree with Mikey, so many leisure centres are closing or closed now. Seems either under used or councils just approve another one and waste resources. I'm surprised we have any left, with the cost of living, a cheaper fun day out for families is being ruined by cost.

Though it is always nice to see these places exploded. Pools seem to be a favourite here. Nice images and reporting.

The funny part is that they're now saying this one shouldn't have been closed as the new site that was opened isn't able to cope with the capacity 😂
