Cellars Clough Mill was opened in 1888. It was owned by Samuel Firth, then Fisher Firth and Son. In 1981 it became Cellars Clough Woolen Mill, before closing in 1982.
Visited solo on a slightly drab weekday morning. Credit must go to @little_ boy_explores and @ChieftanX whose reports on the site from this year confirmed that this place hasn’t actually been totally demolished.. Rather, part of the mill (Mill 1) and the chimney were removedin June 2014, with the owner suggesting that he would like to demolish the other parts (Mill 2 and 3) in the near future.

As of 2017 these buildings still stand, pending planning permission for accommodation on the site. A quick comparison between the archive photo above and the external shot below gives some impression of what’s been removed.

As well as the main mill buildings, some outbuildings also remain. These offices have now lost their roof and are largely fire damaged, leaving nothing to be found in the way of paperwork. :-(

I did this a little while back. Shame it's empty, but the vast spaces in empty mills can be quite beautiful too. Bit of a squeeze getting upstairs (well, if you have a few scoops from time to time like me).

There are some cool explores around these parts :thumb

You’re not wrong, nothing beats a mill. Yeah, bit more inside would have been good but they’re the best spaces. :)
