This tunnel was built around the 70s and was made to carry cellulose gases which are used to produce plastics and used in many other industries. This is tunnel is located under a roundabout and is only about 5 or 6ft under ground and running about 70M in length.

You'll notice in the images that the light fixtures are on the floor as the gas pipes in the tunnel are ferrying gasses lighter than air. This would have prevented any ignition and explosions if there was to be a leak and build up in the tunnel. There was also an old bus stop sign before stagecoach bought out the ''Blue and white'' buses.

enjoy the images.

What's 'cellulose gas'?
I'm no scientist but I believe its how the gas is extracted and is more based on the structure of the elements in the gases as many gases have a cellulose structure in them their main trait is being lighter than air. We're not sure what gases was being ferried through the pipes but examples would be methane or hydrogen.
