The factory was one of the largest in the region. The supply of raw material was provided by a nearby mine. Production peaked in the 1970s. Depleted after almost 100 years, the deposits and the outdated technology used here resulted in the decision to shut down the factory.

Judging by the last photo there looks to have been three kilns there at one point. Presumably Polysius Built Kilns. Would have been quite a spectacle from up high.
