The old fire station building fronting Hatton Garden was built in 1898 to provide cover for the city centre and the old inner areas of the city (https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1075214).
The part explored is outlined in red, although the building carries on down the street (green).
My interest in this place was as a potential route into the empty magistrates courts (purple) which seem a worthwhile target https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/step-inside-dale-street-magistrates-9687568. The green part also appears to be disused and may have been part of the courts.
As it happened there was no direct connection between the red and green parts, at least none that I found on my single visit. There are however a couple of potential routes which might be worthwhile checking in future. Anyway, the red part was mostly rather dull - the old fire station has been converted into student flats, currently empty due to problems with water and electricity. The man behind this scheme specialises in ‘student pods’ and has a rather chequered history. He certainly crammed them in here, with beams and beds in odd places.
Despite being a complete rabbit warren the place is in fact quite high spec with some nice communal spaces.
Eventually I gave up on the student digs and headed for the tower instead via some of the many sets of stairs. Pictures go from the basement up.

It might be worth checking access to the fire station if you are coming through Liverpool to see if you can get further than I did.
