A quarry developed in the 1800s that was subsequently used by the French army in the first world war. It features a selection of military related sculptures on the outside, plus a chapel and a more recently developed dining room.

Access itself was easy, but the site is hidden in a wood on a hill. It took some time peering at contour maps and debating to work out the way... but we got there in the end.

The fort was used by two regiments who fought in the Somme and Vernam, as a base mainly for recouperation - it was inside French lines for most of WW1
