The Explore
This was the last explore on what was a very long day driving across France. The chapel is part of a larger seminary which seemed to be under renovation so there seemed to be a lot of activity in there which meant we had to find another route in.
We headed across a field full of huge cows that paid way too much attention to us than I was comfortable with haha eventually we found a way in. Access was a very tight squeeze but we made it in the end and wow this place was stunning when we opened the huge chapel doors!
The History
Chapelle Des Pelotes, France was originally built in the 1800s as a secondary school, which contained a massive chapel.
The seminary operated until early 1900’s when the church separated from the state, in the middle of WW1 the Belgian army set up a hospital there for soldiers.
And then later turned into a home for ex servicemen until it sadly closed down in 2000.
