Cheratte mine operated for 70 years 1907 to 1977, it's oustanding, not only because it's literally on a street in the middle of a town, but also because of the mock mediaeval tower which contains the headstocks and pithead facilities for the older shafts.
We've all seen the photos of this place, it's well worth a visit. Apparently according to some euro pro-fo's we met in there you can pay for a ticket and they let you in. Meh, access all areas under our rules. Free, easy, blink and you'll miss us!
