Well, we want all the chernobyl threads in one thread to avoid 30 different reports, even though yours isn't from the same trip, if it was separate it would give the impression everybody else should post it separately.

He was one of the stray dogs that still live around Pripyat, lovely animal.

Chernobyl, Ukraine, April 2014

So I finally had a spare weekend to catch up on some editing and thought it about time I waded through the couple of thousand pics I took in Chernobyl.

Chernobyl has fascinated me for years, so when Bigjobs told me he had got me a place on the trip I was absolutely bouncing. To get the opportunity to actually go and visit was an amazing and sometimes overwhelming experience.

The devastation and impact the disaster had on the people of Pripyat was really brought home to me when one of the guides, Serge, told us how he had been working in Reactor One when the accident happened. His friend and colleague told him to go and get help whilst he went to see what had happened. Serge survived, his friend didn't.

Serge also took us to what had been his house in Pripyat and watching him look round what remained of the home he had shared with his wife and two sons was, for me, a truly saddening experience.

However, it was a fantastic trip with some fantastic people. Big thanks go out to Wevsky for looking out for me and Bigjobs and making sure we got back in to the flat regardless of what time we rocked up at. Those three and a half hours are still a mystery!

Im not going to write reams about what happened. Wevsky has briefly covered this in his report. However I will add a link fromthe BBC News website that does gives lots of information.

It's a little pic heavy and the photos are a little grainy as I was still working out what the buttons n dials did when we went!
