HISTORY- on 26 april 1986 during a safety exercise on the NO4 REACTOR to simulate a power failure , the safety systems were shut off to see if they would kick back in , in an emergency ! a combination of design flaws and the blatant disregard of safety procedures by senior staff on the reactor workfloor trying to impress their big bosses resulted in a botched test which escalated in an explosion in the reactor core releasing radioactive material into the atmoshpere through the massive hole in the roof caused by the explosion!
This disaster involved 500,000 workers, citizens and military personnel in its cleanup operations ! costing the soviet state 18 billion roubles (18 billion dollars equivelent ) , thousands of soldiers were used to sweep the surrounding areas whose sole purpose was to kill all animals !....cats,dogs ,birds, domestic livestock and all wildlife they came across..
