The Wynne slate mine is located on the immediate east side of Glyn Ceiriog, on the north side of Quarry Road. It was originally a hillside working dating from about 1770 and was further developed in the 1870s with underground workings developed in about 1890. In 1898 the quarry employed 64 men, output peaking at 2000 tons with 70 men employed. The quarry/mine closed in 1920. It was later used for military storage and in the 1970's was opened as a tourist attraction until finally closing in 1996.

Access to this place is easy and it's a chilled explore. There isn't a massive amount to see when compared to the bigger Welsh mines and most of the museum displays have long since rotted away but there's a few nice features and its worth a look if nearby.

Looks like an easy mine to access, though I expect not. looks a lovely little mooch though.

Went this morning and couldn’t find it. Thought I had the right road ended up at the end and a bloke was in a house. Gutted haha. These pics are class

We did the same thing at first. It's a strange one to find and is behind some gardens. If you plan to re-visit give us a shout and we will point you in the right direction

If you take the public footpath behind those houses, there is a sign partially eaten by undergrowth that points the way

Hi! Is anybody was there in 2026?? I was today and I find steel palisade (looks quite new) and a lot of broken trees. Is there maybe any other entrance?
