Clockhouse Brickworks is a Hansons site, phased out of production during early 2009, due to the downturn in the construction industry, and a lack of housebuilding projects. Tucked away on a twisty A road out of Dorking, we first glimpsed this vast site early last year. Exchanging looks of excitement, and thoughts of "can you see what i see", we returned the next day.
After Vaulting fences in last year's blistering April heatwave, it appeared we would be out of luck. Every window and door secured with hefty Steel plating, we could only peer in at mint workshops and buildings that looked as if they hadn't been touched since the closure, and in fact have still alluded us.
After a long perimeter walk of this site that is undergoing transition to landfill, we almost admitted defeat. That was until we utilized the buildings conveyor system, and pretty much vertically posted ourselves onto the defunct production line. After near death from the excessive laughter of the situation, we began to take a wander.
First visited with UJ. I went back with a mate a week later, to find things had changed dramatically.
