Many years ago my dad , Who was in with a lot of quite high up sorts ( Lords and Ladys and Head game keepers ) visited these .From what i remember they ran from the main house to the church presumably under the main lake ? And i remember him talking about a military use tunnel that ran accross the park ?
Any one been in them as i cant find anything on here as yet. I would love to see photo's of the interior etc.

Never heard of anything like that at Clumber, maybe he was talking about Welbeck Abbey which is close by and definitely has tunnels.

Definatly inside clumber park and from the main house to the church .With one running under the park also . He had only been invited down once . But his account was of being inside the park itself with reference to the church near the lake .And another tunnel running either to or from a farm under the park .

Hi just wikied Welbeck abbey ( not known of till now ) and found out that around 15 miles of tunnels were built here . Maybe the ones my dad had been in were just part of this complex that extended under clumber with a clumber access ?As he did say it was a lift up lid and stairs that he had gone down .

Been here a vast number of times, never heard nowt of tunnels.
BUT thats not to say there never has been.

The church is still standing, clicky, although I understand subsidence under one side of the tower threatens its stability.
The house, long gone, sadly, was here, clicky . Wouldnt think it would be unreasonable for His Lordship to have a tunnel between the two for those occasions when the weather was 'most frightful', AND also to the stables, kitchen and garden buildings just North of there, so the servants didnt 'ruin the afternoon tea'!

Now then, just across the lake is a replica greek temple, clicky .
(MASSIVE) IF there were any tunnels under/across the lake, would it again not be reasonable to expect it to lead here?

AND, (I think) it was late 1980's/early 90's the lake was drained, <foggy memory> either because the wier was sinking, or there was a leak somewhere in the lake.</foggy memory> It remained drained for quite a long time, with many a confused swan and duck, so they could find and fix the leak.
WHAT IF, the leak was a tunnel under the lake?

.....but these are all supositions!

AFAIK, during the war years the MOD used the park for tank practice or some form of rudimentary land mine clearing test site.
SO it wouldnt be unsurprising if they put in tunnels of their own.

Hardwick farm (I recall) was part of the estate, clicky. So any farm tunnels, may have led here.

Also worth investigating is the Grotto, somewhere near the South Western end of the lake, which apparently houses the lake inlet controls.... you never know, it may have tunnels going off elsewhere!
