Remember that overgrown damp and crumbling tunnel that people were posting up on here about 3 or 4 years ago? It doesn't look like that any more!

The Connaught tunnel was constructed in 1878 to run underneath two major docks and is currently being repaired and upgraded to carry Crossrail trains. In fact, it is the only vintage tunnel to be reused along the entire length of the line. They've had to do some impressive repair work to re-use the tunnel as parts of it were in very poor repair, see here for more information. http://www.crossrail.co.uk/news/art...naught-tunnel-refurbishment-ahead-of-schedule

So Lenston was down from sunny south Wales spending a bit of time n London, so we headed over here for a look. Was a right giggle after we'd been in the pub for a few hours first.

Visited with Extreme_ironing, The_raw, Sentenal, Lenston and Monkey (Don't think I've missed anyone off?)

Not many photos, it's a tunnel and is largely devoid of features. It's just quite interesting to see it now compared to what it was like a few years back before crossrail started work. We also didn't go all the way though, you'll see why in a minute.

These photos aren't in any particular order.

There's a couple of special infa red ones not far past the regular cctv one too, or there at least used to be.

Actually unknown to us we walked past another one on the way in, had we realised this probably would have kept going, however we saw the most interesting bits. :thumb
