Have had my eye on this place for so long so was very pleased when I seen some pics of it recently. Enjoyed the mooch around here.
Little bit of history..
County Hospital was built in 1853 from public subscriptions and donations. It sits on a prominent and elevated position in the centre of Durham. The fact it is on a hill make it slightly confusing layout inside. One minute you think you're on the ground floor and then all of a sudden you're on the third floor! The hospital has been used for all types of health care but more recently it has catered for patients with Mental Health issues and also for minor procedures. The site closed in 2010 and services re-located to the new Lanchester Road Hospital, formerly the Earls House Hospital. There is planning permission to demolish the extensions and return the Victorian buildings to their former glory as Halls for the Uni. The site has suffered no vandalism but has suffered from natural decay in a few places. Judging by some of the random stuff inside, like a noticeboard with loads of wierd German stuff on, and a room with random fake tabs and drink maybe it was used a film set for something. Someone had made a really shit effort to put fake blood on the walls in the mortuary, accompanied by a shitty red apron.
