Whilst browsing the secret scotland wiki page, I came across craigiehall, which was the Headquarters of 2nd Division British Army until april 2012, when it was disbanded. I am by no means any type of military expert, but apparently most of the operations have been moved to aldershot.

Apparently it will continue some operations into August 2012 at the least.

Maybe someone with military knowledge, perhaps ordnance knows any more on this site.

According to the sesco link, it also features craigiehall house an 18th century building, which at one time was a black watch regiment HQ.

Also within the ground is the AAOR, "an anti-aircraft operations room established during the Cold War, but latterly used as a magazine building with the headquarters"

It might be one to look out for in the near future, or perhaps someone has more info, and it's do-able at the moment.

Re: Craigiehall, Headquarters 2nd Division British Army & Craigihall house, Edinburg

In July 2011, following the Defence Basing Review carried out by the Ministry of Defence, it was announced that Craigiehall Barracks, along with Dreghorn Barracks and Redford Barracks also in Edinburgh, would be closing by 2014/15.

There are still units & bases in Germany (BFG) who needed to be re-located to the UK by 2020, but the 2012 Manpower Review fixed that by disbanding them before that date!

The proposed a single UK Support Command, based at Aldershot, will replace three existing divisional headquarters including HQ 2nd Division, based at Craigiehall, which was disbanded in April 2012. Other units at Craigiehall will form part of a new multi-role brigade to be based at Kirknewton. Craigiehall Camp is already earmarked for disposal.

Could be activity for a while as the site is decomisioned and fixtures & fittings etc removed, ity will probably be boarded up and secured during this time.

Thanks for your reply ordnance, I had a feeling you would be along with some useful info.

Naturally I thought of the edit button straight away, but since a moderator had to approve the post first, I could find a way of actually retrieving the post again, to click on the edit button.

Once again thank you :)
