Update on this site. The land including the old Royal Mail sorting office has now been handed over to Network rail so that the railway station area can be developed.

The old Royal Mail sorting offices will be demolished (no timescale specified) Full article here

I attempted to get in here two or three times without any luck but demolition is starting in the next month which should allow better access. Lights have been switched on and off across the building to give the appearance of somebody been there. Part of the sorting office has been closed for two years the rest has been closed for approximately 15 /20years

I was wondering about this place the other day when we drove past it. Does the tunnel on platform 1 have anything to do with this place?

There is a subway tunnel runs across the station and under the older building, this is to be refurbished and used when the building is flattened and turned into a carpark.

All the RM buildings were in use until 2 years ago, the old railway building on the corner has not been used since the 80s. The 1911 constructed building has two below ground levels, it is really tragic that cheshire east and network rail are going ahead with demolition of the 1911 sorting office and the old railway building which I understand was a station masters office or house. By taking down the modern buildings combined with the yard there is ample space for a car park and the old buildings could be refurbished/reused for retail/travel info etc. Unfortunately they don't have the imagination for this!

The area is being cordoned off to start demolition on Monday 10th

PS forgot to say the lights are not operated to give the 'appearance' of occupancy, there is a 24hr security prescence. Omega have a guard who sits in the gatehouse and they do regular patrols around the perimeter and through the windows we have seen them patroling the inside of the building, there is also regular visits by contractors and surveyors, utility mappers etc.

I have only just spotted this :(

You guys must be blind as i spotted 3 ways of getting inside and i was only there for about 20mins .

I suppose entry point details will not be bad now as the place has gone :(

1 There was a broken window you could see from driving past without even stopping . The whole piece of glass was gone so it looked not broken :)

2 As mentioned the tunnels under the station went straight inside , no door needed as there was a hole knocked in the wall as big as a doorway .

3 And last but not least , where the taxis wait there was a grid on the floor , lift that and straight in the basement it went . It was not a heavy one either .

So who here is Crewe based ?

Does anyone know if the underground platform is accessible? Can't imagine it gets used now with the sorting office being demolished.

To provide access from the new multi-storey car park to the platforms the tunnel is been refurbished and will be in use
my daughter works at the station and has no knowledge of an underground platform. The tunnel is no different to the existing ones you can access already under the other platforms
