Crookham Court is a beautiful manor in Thatcham, West Berkshire, which stands on what was originally the site of Crookham Manor, which was demolished around the 1850’s,
Crookham Court was built as a manor house, but in 1961 became a junior boarding School, serving the people at Greenham Common Army Grounds. This old boarding school has a dark history of child abuse from young boys and in 1988 3 of the teaching staff were sentenced to 26 years in prison for the long term sexual abuse of pupils.
This was well documented in the BBC's 'Thats Life', which will shed more light on the atrocities and the history of the building it's self.
So There is some history of the building, and if you are interested in this building, that documentary is worth a watch. This explore actually turned out a bit weird for us though...
So we saw this place online, and me and my girlfriend went for what seemed like a laid back afternoon of photography. We have been taking some more decent photos (and 28 days worthy ones) since we got our new camera for Christmas... for ourselves.
The way we found this particular building is that it was arrowed on some trees. so we followed the arrows and it took us out on to the grounds, very helpful if that was any of you guys :)
As we approached the back of the property I heard what sounded like little bells, or maybe keys hitting each other.
I freaked out in case it was security, and as we are from dorset the drive cost a bit in petrol, and i am tight fisted. The last thing i wanted was to get asked to leave just as we got there.
So I told my girlfriend what I heard, but she couldn't hear anything, so I wrote it off as being something explainable.
The further you get into this building, the more you realise is in here. It's a big property.
I know this building has a dark past and maybe subconsciously this was playing on my mind,
But I had a weird feeling about this property.
The grime was thick on the tiles, and the floors were rotting away, but the building was still very beautiful, even in the state it was in.
As we looked out of the window, we saw some out buildings surrounding a pool.
Even though we were getting to know this building by now, I still felt on edge, and my girlfriend persisted that i was a pussy.
So i hit the roof. Because the hole in the ceiling? anyway...
Some of the rooms have an outdated feel, and that green doesn't compliment the brown at all, Peter André would not be happy.
(See Above)
I was still whining as we came to the pool by a weird church building. so we didn't get a photo of it but if you go you'll see what i'm about to tell you. This might have been a total coincidence but inside the church building, i lost my shit.
We took a photo of this piano but as i looked round i was children's drawing on the wall. in Crayon something said, 'With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, she will make music where ever she goes...' remember me telling you about the keys/ bells at the start? I was more over the top then Yvette Fielding and ran off.
Anyway needless to say, this might have been a coincidence, but we didn't stick around to find out.
All in all, i give this place 4 Gamer Pads out of 5.
Cheers for reading :)
