The Davro Iron and Steel Company was formed in in Lye in 1949. The company grew quickly and in 1954 it relocated to a purpose built site in Bridgnorth. In 2015 the company had once more outgrown its premises and relocated to a new site in Halesowen

That little snippet is about all the history I can find for this place with a cursory search. They weren't a manufacturer of steel, rather a stockholder supplying the automotive, construction and 'core business' trades. Since moving out in 2015 the land has been acquired by a luxury housing developer, and if the huge spread of plans and diagrams that we found inside of the houses to be built here are anything to go by it will certainly be a luxury development.

Initially upon entry it's a little disappointing - whatever machinery and 'big' stuff that they used in here is long gone, presumably moved to their new premises and all thats left is a couple of smaller bits tucked in the corner, and a scarily deep pit left open at one end of the building - if you happened to fall in there it would be a very bad day indeed. However, on further examination it became apparent that large parts of this place are not only pretty untouched, but wonderfully dated and unmolested. Some of the offices look to have not changed at all throughout it's operational life and we soon realised although it looked empty on the surface there was a lot to see here once you started poking around in the corners.

There is also a very old petrol station located on the roadside out front, one of those small local ones where the owners lived on site. This has been empty a lot longer than three years however it looked as if the building that would once have been the owners house was being used as storage by Davro as half the rooms were rammed full of paperwork and other stuff.

Still some brilliant relics left in there, all will be crushed under the demolition rubble no doubt.

That’s pretty nice mate, looks like a great mooch. You got some great shots there, I could spend hours looking through all that paperwork!

There was a ridiculous amount - sadly most of it only from the last two decades or so but still pretty staggering, especially when we had no idea what to expect inside :D

Good report. I used to come here back in 2005 to sell them hydraulic fittings and hoses, the place hasn't changed much if at all

Drove past here the other day and spotted the door wide open, I was running late for a meeting otherwise I would have run in with my camera as it looked like it had potential. I’m glad it’s already been reported on and you have covered it nicely.
