Hi, thanks for checking out my first post.

The Derbyshire Royal Infirmary (DRI) was finished in 1810 on land that wasformerly part of Derby's Castlefield estate on what is now London Road. When it was initially constructed it was known as the 'Derbyshire General Infirmary'. In 1890 a Typhoid outbreak shook the hospital - the buildings design was blamed - and the hospital was demolished. Queen Victoria herself laid the first stone of what would become Derbyshire Royal Infirmary which was completed in 1894. The hospital was expanded several times during the 20th century, most notably Wilderslowe Tower and the A+E building, built in 1970. In the late 90s, the NHS Trust's for each hospital in Derby merged, and decided to merge the services of both hospitals in one place. The new hospital is known as the 'Derby Royal Hospital'. There are no official plans to redevelop the currently disused site.

The Visit
Visited on a sunny Saturday morning with two non-members and spent the good part of four hours inside only to realise afterwards that we'd only covered a quarter of the site! Really good explore and will definitely be heading back soon as there's lots more to see.

Enjoy

And there was me thinking everyone had lost interest in this place....

Not even a little bit. It's 5 minutes down the road from me, but I've heard it's overrun with kids, crack heads and there's stories of police dogs! Good to know it's still good for a mooch.

Sheesh it's getting really trashed! Still a great explore though, not many hospitals this size come along these days. Nice photos :)

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by what we found there, as local I know what kind of person you can get in the shadier parts of Derby. We didn't see a single person the whole time we were there. I think people have smashed it up about as much as they're going to if you ask me.

I'm sure it's still good for a mooch, but I wouldn't say it's a 'good mooch' anymore

Wow,this place has been tampered with a little. Nicely caught, I like the first pic :thumb

It could be classed as animal cruelty to take police dogs in there with the amount of broken sh1t around on the floor to damage their paws!

I know this sounds stupid, but I swear the dogs have shoes

the dog unit has been in a few times following reports of the metal fairies, fair few security lads about though (easily avoided)

Yeh, they do put shoes on the dogs to protect their feet. Not even joking, it's true
