Until we visited this place a few months ago i had lost all faith in hospital exploring. Back in the day we spent hours roaming sites like this and had the time of our lives. In recent years however all hospital closures have just looked so wank. Modernised empty buildings with seemingly nothing to actually explore other then corridors full of soggy ceiling tiles and fake laminate. At the DRI however things are different.. This place has turned the clock back 10 years on urban exploring for me. From the minute you saunter through the massive hole in the front gates and spot the ever present youths practicing 'parkour' on top of a three story building its epic. To your left skag heads sit drinking tennents super in the mid day winter sun, to your right a pair of hooded youths casually put windows through in broad daylight only acknowledging your presence with a mumbled ''alright''.. Yes! the DRI isnt about being elite, its not about boosting your urbexer points or one upping people from some other group you dont get on with, Its about going exploring for FUN! to have a laugh and find some cool shit (some of which you might take home as a memento or wear to the pub as a comedy talking point sock horror!)
Go here and try it for yourself. You might be surprised just how good this game used to be.
