Report - Derwent Villas & Former DRI Doctors Clinic - Derby, March 2019

History - Three large Victorian houses (known as the Derwent Villas) on the edge of the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site were designed by renowned Nottinghamshire architect Thomas Chambers Hine. The largest of the 3 was apparently used as a Doctors Clinic and Offices at some point and although I cannot find any official record of this it certainly had more of a 'hospitaly' feel and look to it. The other properties looked like they were divided up into flats for staff accomodation. The properties were originally due to be retained and form part of the new 'Nightingale Quarter' but unfortunately now look set to be demolished due to extensive fire damage that occoured in July 2017. Work on the new estate is due to start by August 2019.

Explore - An explore of two halves really. On one hand they are the most rotten, soggy and mouldy places I've been. Coupled with asbestos warning signs and obvious signs of heroin use, it wasn't a pleasant explore. On the other hand the supposed 'clinic' and offices still had bags of character and it was interesting to find loads of DRI nic-nacs still lying around. The three story building is hanging badly; one of the second floor corridors was made entirely out of radiators balanced across wet beams and one upper floor was so soggy and bowed in it was like walking around on wet weetabix. All pictures taken handheld with a P20 Pro.

A quick look around the old site first. Pepperpots minus most of the lead.

I'm amazed this is still standing. It looked ready to fall down 2 years ago. Also more needles in here than I've seen anywhere else.

They're gross but have loads of character and I can't imagine they've got long left. Which one's that? Wilderslowe house? Looks accessable with a bit of bravery.
