I posted a while back that I'd missed the chnace to check this place out but last time back my brother-in-law who used to work on security there got me in for a walk around. Couldn't go in the buildings for a proper explore which was a shame, plus some part are some still active but it gave a feel for the place. Can't tell you much about the place as I don't speak Hungarian and his english is limited.
All I know is the steel works was originally built to supply Russia when Hungary was under Communist rule. In 1989 the russian-based rule was kicked out and the place has been in steady decline ever since.
The main attraction but actually now a total shell. There is no interior at all and a guard dog tethered at the base!
Would be a piece of cake to climb any of the numerous chimneys access is open and ladders solid...
Loads of stuff still in these office - frustrating not to be able to go in.
Nice staircase providing great geometry and contrast
Touchdown!
Almost missed this little fellow lurking below a walkway:
another curvy mirror shot
Took this one for my wife - her Dad died suddenly last year and it turn out he used to design these for the railway there:
