Visited with Icutyou.

My second tunnel from the ‘South Devon and Launceston Railway’.
Opened in 1859 the tunnel is 341 metres (374yrds) long and takes the old line under the town of Grenofen, 2 miles east of Tavistock.
The line closed in 1962 and almost all of the tunnels and viaducts became unused, aside from the few that have now been reopened as cycle tracks or footpaths.
There seem to be plans afoot to re-open the Tunnel as a cycle track - or so the many surveying marks would suggest.

The northern entrance to the Tunnel was fairly clear, aside from the fence shown in the Photos, but the southern end was almost completely blocked by a huge bush which extends for a good 1metres down the cutting.
Inside there was no graffiti, but a little rubbish - The usual tyres and buckets etc.

On with the Photos!

Just a quick note that this tunnel is now far too dangerous to enter.

Avoid if you want to live!

Enter it now and you'll be mown down by hoards of lycra clad middle age cyclists, as it has been reopened as part of a cycleway

I meant to update this after heading home to Devon to visit the wrinklies a couple of years ago.

Tarmac'd, lit and easily accessible now!
