Durham County Hospital

Finally I can report on this one now that it's been exposed by somebody else within the 28dl community, as you may all be aware they have been quite a few politics around this one, and I was asked by the people I explored here with to keep it hush hush, which I have done solely out of respect for these people. However the cat's out of the bag now, so I'm free to share with you all!

The Explore

Ok so I visited this one with Borolad and members of the 'facebook crew' as they're known on here (Good bunch of guys and girls really), and it's an ok explore, a few nice bits and pieces among a sea of empty gutted rooms, the morgue been the highlight in pristine nick!

History

From wikipedia, the site closed to the public in 2010.

On an elevated point in the City of Durham, is a spacious building of stone, supported by donations and public subscriptions and erected in 1853, in the Elizabethan style, at a cost of £7,500, and will hold 44 patients. In 1867 male and female convalescent wards were added at a cost of £2,400 as a memorial of the late Dean Waddington, who in 1865 contributed £2,000 to the funds of the hospital, and subsequently a further sum of £2,000, and finally bequeathed by will £6,000 more. Additional wards were added by the late John Eden esq., of Beamish Park, who gave a sum of £2,000 towards their erection, and bequeathed a further sum of £10,000. These were opened December 2, 1886. There is now ROOM for 50 patients. Source: Kelly's Directory 1910

Who ever told you about it is quite clearly clueless so i wouldn't worry. If something is so good it needs to be secret (this is no where near that good imo) then keep it a secret not 'tip people off' about it. One day people will realise they cant have a secret place and whore it out for an ego trip the two things are not compatible!

I agree with you on this one, it's certainly not the most interesting location I've ever visited, although I am more into the industry side of things myself... I also agree that if a location to to remain 'secret' it's probably not a good idea to arrange large scale visits!

Cheers for the comment!

You could've still shared it and asked one of the mods to move it to NP so that the people you went with didn't do a poo in their pants about it being public on here. This whole keeping places secret is getting beyond a joke

First photos I've seen of this place that include more than just the mortuary though, looks decent

Was here last week for my first explore. Literally on my door step. I was Interested as to what was in the room that was locked in there. Looked like it was on the nutters wing. The window was about 2 inches thick and looked as though people had been giving their best shot of smashing it.
